Baidu was ranked as a leader in the artificial intelligence industry in China in IDC’s 2024 Major Model Assessment Report. The company’s generative artificial intelligence products, ERNIE Bot and Wenxin Yige, showed superior performance in all seven evaluation dimensions, becoming the only company to achieve this success.

IDC’s report notes that Baidu excels in areas such as multimodality, security and text style transfer. ERNIE Bot demonstrated a remarkable performance, especially in systematic thinking, logical thinking and abstract thinking abilities. Additionally, Baidu’s coding assistant, Baidu Comate, achieved a significant usage rate, contributing 27% of newly generated codes.

Released in October 2023, ERNIE 4.0 brought significant improvements to abilities such as comprehension, production, reasoning and memory. Today, ERNIE Bot has 200 million users and processes 200 million queries daily.

Baidu’s broad industry impact The report evaluated the major model performance of 11 companies, including Baidu, OpenAI, Alibaba and SenseTime. Baidu excelled in areas such as Q&A comprehension, reasoning, creative expression, mathematics, and coding. The Wenxin large model has demonstrated superior performance in office tasks, life assistant tasks, and various industry applications such as energy, finance, media, healthcare and manufacturing.

Baidu’s Wenxin Large Model 4.0 is powered by Baidu Smart Cloud’s Qianfan large model platform, offering enterprise-level development and service operations. The ERNIE Speed ​​and ERNIE Lite models, available free of charge since May 2024, have increased the adoption of this technology. Notable users and partners include leading companies such as State Grid, SPD Bank, China Aviation, Geely and Samsung.

IDC’s predictions IDC expects a series of updates and upgrades in the large model market in China in the second quarter of 2024. This period, dubbed the “Hundred Model War,” is expected to intensify competition among AI vendors.
