Japan is on pace to increase domestic chip production. It is said that the country has allocated a budget of 300 million dollars in order to compete in the chip industry, which is seen as the key to the future. With this budget, efforts will be made to increase efficiency in local chip production factories.
Japan committed to more chip production
Japan’s Minister of Economy and Trade also confirmed that a special research center will be established for the R&D studies required to maximize chip production in the country. It is claimed that this center will significantly strengthen Japanese production capacity for many different sectors, especially artificial intelligence and nanotechnology.
Since this high-budget initiative would pose an economic risk for the private sector, the Japanese state got involved and put forward a major investment plan. According to this plan, chips of 2 nanometers and smaller will be produced in the next 5 years, and these will form the backbone of the artificial intelligence industry in the country.
However, private Japanese companies such as LSTC also aim to produce various artificial intelligence chips, especially for smartphones and electric cars, with government support behind them. If these goals can be achieved within the planned time, we may see new Japanese companies competing with giant chip manufacturers such as TSMC and Samsung.
