Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) has made a very important decision regarding security. With this decision aimed at preventing credit card fraud Some passwords are banned in ATMs. The new regulation started to be implemented as of today.
Which Passwords Are Banned on Credit and Debit Cards?
According to a previous decision, it was forbidden to use dates of birth as passwords in ATMs, but passwords that were easy to guess, such as the founding years of football clubs and license plate codes, could be preferred. Although these were easy to remember passwords, they posed a great security risk.
BRSA has implemented an important regulation for citizens to create stronger passwords. Establishment dates of sports clubs such as 1905, 1903, 1907, important years such as 1881, 1453, 1923 and license plate codes such as 0101, 0606, 3434 will no longer be available.
Thus, card holders will be encouraged to use more secure passwords and will prevent fraudsters from easily accessing the cards. So, what happens if the old password is insisted on for credit and debit cards at the ATM?
People who continue to use banned passwords will face a warning when they want to make transactions at the ATM. If the user ignores the warning and does not set a new password, their card will be blocked for security reasons.
