YouTube has had a useful feature for a while now that allows content creators to convert their old or new long-form videos into Shorts format. The good thing about the feature is that it can reach new audiences by revitalizing old content and increase the number of subscribers by directing viewers to the original video. So, how to create Shorts from long YouTube videos? Details are in our news…
How to create Shorts from old YouTube videos?
To briefly explain what the feature is: This feature of YouTube allows content creators to create creative content by reusing their past videos. Moreover, it has the potential to increase your engagement because it directs your viewers to your original video. In fact, switching to Shorts format consists of very simple steps:
- Choose your video: First, go to the watch page of your existing long-form video.
- Use the remix feature: Click “Remix – Edit into a Short” option. This will take you to the Shorts creation experience.
- Shorten and personalize your video: Select a maximum of 60 seconds of your video. You can make the video more eye-catching by adding text, filters or creative elements.
If you have chosen a clip shorter than 60 seconds, it is possible to complete the remaining time with the YouTube Shorts camera. For example, if you selected a 45-second segment from your long video, you can record a new 15-second video with the Shorts camera and integrate it.
What are the restrictions?
- You should only have your own videos: This feature is only available for your public videos. Hidden, unlisted or third-party copyrighted content is not eligible.
- Audio restrictions: Music or sound effects from YouTube’s Audio Library cannot be used in Shorts created from existing videos.
- Invisible options: If you don’t see the “Remix” feature, make sure your content is eligible for YouTube’s sampling feature.
