The world’s most popular motor sports race, Formula 1, was last held in Turkey in 2020. Since then, although claims that the popular race will come to our country again have been frequently brought up, we have never been able to see Turkey in the race calendar.
But F1 fans’ long wait may soon be over. It is reported that the work carried out to re-add Turkey to the F1 calendar is almost completed.
Türkiye Will Be Included in the Formula 1 2026 Calendar
According to the latest news, great progress has been made in the negotiations to include Istanbul Park Circuit in the F1 championship calendar in 2026. It is reported that the meetings between Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Youth and Sports Minister Osman Aşkın Bak and other officials with the Formula 1 management are nearing an end.
It is said that an agreement was reached with F1 officials as a result of the meetings in Abu Dhabi, attended by Lale Cander, the new operator of the Istanbul Park Circuit and President of Pirelli Turkey, and Eren Üçlertoprağı, President of the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED).
Allegedly, after these private meetings with Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali and other officials, Turkey will host Formula 1 in 2026 if it submits a letter of intent and completes the necessary procedures. We expect more details to be shared on this subject in the coming weeks.
