The number of content created by artificial intelligence is increasing. Many companies and platforms are thinking about how to manage this content. Tagging content prepared with artificial intelligence is also among the suggested solutions in this regard. YouTube, one of the platforms that adopted the solution in question, has determined new rules for labeling videos prepared with artificial intelligence.
Now, when realistic-looking videos prepared with tools such as generative artificial intelligence are uploaded to the platform, it will be mandatory to tag these videos. The company defines realistic content as “content that people can easily confuse with real people, events and places.”
If a creator uses an AI-generated synthetic voice in a video or replaces someone’s face with another person, they will need to add tags. It will also be mandatory to add explanations if images of a real event or place have been changed.
If the label in question was not added by the account that uploaded the video and there is “the potential for altered or synthetic content to mislead people”, the warning label will be added by YouTube. While the company plans to give creators some time to get used to the rules; He underlines that those who persistently violate the policy will be punished.
These tags will begin appearing on YouTube in the coming weeks, starting with the mobile app and on desktop and TV. Labels that will often appear in the expanded description will indicate that the video contains “altered or synthetic content.” The statement will also add that the audio or visuals have been “significantly edited or digitally created.”
YouTube will highlight the artificial intelligence tag on sensitive issues
But for more sensitive topics (like news, elections, finance and health), YouTube will place a label directly above the video player to make the warning more prominent.
In addition; YouTube continues to work on a renewed takedown request process for synthetic or manipulated content that depicts the face or voice of a real, identifiable person. The company plans to share more details about the updated procedure soon.
