Nowadays, gamers not only want to play games but also want to watch their favorite game worlds on cinema or television screens. Hollywood’s new favorite to adapt to television or cinema is now games. Recently, adaptations of many games such as The Last of Us, Mario and Fallout have met with the audience on the screens. A new survey has revealed which popular game series gamers want to watch on screen. Here are the details…
GamePeople are waiting for Zelda, CoD and GTA adaptations!
The National Research Group (NRG) conducted a survey of 1,001 PC and console gamers. According to the survey, players most want to watch the adaptation of The Legend of Zelda game. In the survey, Call of Duty ranked second and Grand Theft Auto ranked third.
Other games that managed to enter the top 10 in the survey include Fortnite, Red Dead Redemption, The Sims, Minecraft, God of War, Mass Effect and Final Fantasy. The survey used NRG’s Franchise IQ system, which has tracked the popularity of hundreds of entertainment franchises over the past five years.
Additionally, 72% of survey respondents said watching a game adaptation would encourage them to play the same game again. 65% stated that adaptations made it easier for them to share their favorite games with their close circle.
However, it cannot be said that every game adaptation is loved. And in the survey, 77% of gamers believe that adaptations should be written and directed by people who truly love the original games. 59% said they felt emotionally betrayed when adaptations were made by people who did not know or respect the game.
What game adaptations will players be able to watch soon?
Sony Pictures Entertainment announced last November that it was working with Nintendo on a live-action Legend of Zelda film adaptation. Unable to slow down, Sony is also developing a God of War series for Prime Video.
Warner Bros. Starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black. The shooting of Minecraft’s movie was completed last April. Minecraft is also expected to be adapted into a TV series for Netflix. Margot Robbie, who caused havoc with Barbie last year, will produce the cinema adaptation of The Sims game series through her LuckyChap production company.
HBO’s The Last of Us, Prime Video’s Fallout and Peacock’s Twisted Metal series have quickly become audience favorites, and their second seasons are currently in production.
NRG research director Fergus Navaratnam-Blair also made a statement about why game adaptations are Hollywood’s new favorite:
“Game copyrights have been ignored in Hollywood for many years, but lately storytellers seem to have succeeded. “As superhero franchises increasingly struggle at the box office, many studio executives see games as the new savior.”
Gamers now want to watch plays, and these adaptations are becoming more and more popular in Hollywood. Additionally, this shows that the relationship between games and cinema and television is increasing. Which play or movie adaptation would you like to watch?
