There has been an interesting development regarding the famous web browsers that have been serving internet users for years. Cyber security experts have detected a vulnerability that has existed for more than 18 years in many browsers, especially Google Chrome, Apple Safari and Mozilla Firefox. Details are in the news.
Hackers Can Access All Users’ Data Via 0.0.0.0 IP Address!
Cybersecurity experts recently discovered a critical vulnerability in Google Chrome, Apple Safari and Mozilla Firefox browsers. It was learned that the vulnerability, which is currently being used by hackers, has existed for more than 18 years. Hackers can easily access users’ sensitive information through browsers with the 0.0.0.0 IP address.
During attacks carried out through the vulnerability, hackers redirect users to a website and this site directs a malicious request requesting access to files via the address 0.0.0.0. Hackers can gain access to files, sensitive data, and even the local network on users’ devices who approve the request.
Mozilla Firefox Still Couldn’t Close the Security Vulnerability!
Microsoft, Google and Apple started working to solve the problem immediately after the vulnerability detected by cyber security experts emerged. While Microsoft has already blocked access to the 0.0.0.0 address, Google and Apple are about to implement a similar solution. On the other hand, Firefox has not yet taken action regarding the issue.
Mozilla is still unable to eliminate the existing vulnerability because its IP address blocking solution could cause problems on servers using the IP address 0.0.0.0.0 instead of localhost. We should also point out that cyber security experts emphasize the seriousness of this problem and argue that legal regulations should be made.
