5G statement from Türk Telekom CEO

Ümit Önal, CEO of Türk Telekom, announced that in the discussions with regulatory bodies about the 5G tender, they expressed the opinion that it would be better to move the tender to a time when the localization rate in 5G is higher.

Türk Telekom CEO Ümit Önal used the following statements in his statement on the subject:

“A tender calendar for 2024 has not been announced yet, but the Ministry has made some statements from time to time that studies on 5G will be carried out in 2024. Our expectation here is related to the tender model. There are many models in the world, we shared our opinions with the regulatory body about which model is better in Turkey. There should be a process in which we ease our dependence on foreign technology and where our locality comes to the fore. In a world where 5G usage is more industrial, rather than individual, in more businesses, we think it would be better for Turkey to move this towards a time when the localization rate is higher. “It makes more sense to switch to 5G with a high localization rate.”
