John Carpenter’s cult film The Thing, released in 1982, is preparing to return to the gaming world. The horror-survival game inspired by the movie The Thing is preparing to bring back the iconic brand. The film, first shot by John Carpenter in 1982, made a big impact in the science fiction world. Nightdive brought The Thing back to the agenda.
According to the announcement made via Xbox Wire, players will once again take on the role of Captain Blake and lead a US special forces team to investigate the aftermath of the events at Outpost 31. The remastered version will offer significant upgrades while maintaining the beloved survival horror gameplay of the first game.
Players will be able to experience the alien-infested map in more detail. There will also be various graphical upgrades such as ray-tracing and improved textures. The revamped trust and fear system will bring tension to interactions with non-player characters.
“We know players are looking forward to returning to this world, and we are excited to deliver a more refined experience,” said Sarah Williamson, the game’s producer. Accordingly, he said that they made many improvements to the level design, gameplay mechanics and general atmosphere.
The Thing: Remastered will be released on December 5 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch.
