Since its launch in 2019, Apex Legends has gained an important place among competitive FPS games after five years of continuous growth and more than 130 million players worldwide. Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment are celebrating the fifth anniversary of the beloved FPS and battle royale game with the release of Apex Legends: Breakout on consoles and PC, ushering in the next era of great competition. In this big season that has changed the rules of the game since its launch, Apex Legends: Breakout includes new Legend Upgrades, as well as innovations in the Ranked experience that experienced players will find familiar, including smoother matchmaking.
Respawn has continued to evolve the Apex Legends experience with its passionate community at the forefront of every innovation, evolution, and seasonal launch over the past five years. The roster of specially designed Legends grew to 24, players were able to compete on five massive and dynamic maps, and were offered countless weapons and new features to create their own strategies. Through Mixed Tape, players were able to participate in limited-time events that experimented with various modes and unique gameplay concepts. The deep story of Apex Legends, set in Respawn’s iconic Titanfall universe, was conveyed to players with the Stories from the Outlands video series and the last four-episode Kill Code mini series.
In Apex Legends: Breakout, players are introduced to Legend Upgrades, which improve each Legend’s armor and abilities based on their actions in a match. By leveling up in a match, players can choose Ability Upgrades for their Legend tailored to their playstyle and battle demands. Ranked mode moves to a high-risk, high-reward system that encourages combat this season. Players can accumulate Ranking Points (RP) in a match, with bonuses for kills, match ranking, and outperforming higher ranked teams. In order to ensure fairness in this new structure in Breakout, the Ranked progress of all players is reset starting from 1RP.
Throughout the season, players will also be able to earn Release Rewards when a new Legend is available to play for free for the remainder of the season. These Legends are Fuse, Seer, Rampart, Mad Maggie, Loba, and Valkyrie, and each has unique challenges that players must complete to unlock these Legends permanently.
As part of the 5th Anniversary Gathering Event, players will engage in Straight Shot, a fast-paced Limited Time Mode where 10 teams drop into predetermined Points of Interest (POI), alongside enemy squads with fully equipped weapons and ready for action. Straight Shot will also offer a fast-paced battle experience with faster ring laps, a smaller map, and the ability to requeue without ever having to visit the lobby.
Apex Legends: Breakout will come with 120 FPS support
Last season, cross-progression was introduced to allow players to join Apex Legends whenever, wherever they want. In Breakout, players on Xbox Series New controller improvements such as tactile and adaptive triggers for the PlayStation 5 DualSense Wireless Controller have also been added to the game.
Apex Legends: Breakout is currently out for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via the EA App and Steam.
