Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar announced that daily production in the oil field in Şırnak Gabar reached 61 thousand barrels. This development enabled Turkey to reach the highest production level in its history with a total crude oil production of 3 million 425 thousand barrels in November.
Gabar became the locomotive of Turkey in oil production!
Minister Bayraktar stated that as of November, half of Turkey’s total oil production was met from the Gabar field. The Gabar field, discovered in 2021, was recorded as the largest oil discovery on land in the history of the Republic.
Turkish Petroleum Joint Stock Partnership (TPAO) celebrated its 70th anniversary with the National Technologies in the Petroleum Industry Conference (PEMTEK). Minister Bayraktar announced that TPAO carries out operations in more than 130 fields in five regions with its 3 thousand 692 personnel and produces 80% of the oil and natural gas extracted in Turkey.
Paradigms in oil and natural gas exploration were changed with the strategic changes implemented within the framework of the National Energy and Mining Policy. Türkiye made the largest natural gas discovery in its history in the Black Sea in 2020, thanks to its fleet of deep-sea drilling ships and seismic research ships. Currently, the production in the Sakarya Gas Field has approached 7 million cubic meters per day and this production meets the needs of 3.5 million households.
TPAO aims to grow not only within Türkiye’s borders but also internationally. Minister Bayraktar stated that in addition to the ongoing work in Somalia, they plan to increase oil and natural gas production with international partnerships in Iraq, Libya, Africa, Central Asia, the Caucasus and South America.
Nationalization steps, which are an important element of the National Energy and Mining Policy, enabled the creation of a wide ecosystem in the energy sector. 53% of Turkish Petroleum’s goods purchases and 99% of its service purchases in 2023 were procured domestically.
While strategic independence was achieved through the use of domestic software and equipment, significant progress was made in energy supply security. Domestic technologies and products were exhibited within the scope of PEMTEK, revealing Turkey’s success in this field.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Bayraktar made important statements regarding the future of TPAO. Stating that working conditions will be improved and a more modern, flexible governance structure will be implemented, the Minister emphasized that TPAO will move towards becoming a national champion in line with the Türkiye Century vision.
Minister Bayraktar stated that localization efforts and the development of national technologies will continue without slowing down. In this context, Türkiye continues to move towards independence in the energy sector and increase its competitiveness worldwide.
