Over the last few years, YouTube has made several changes to strengthen its platform. These changes include visual innovations, quality of life improvements, and major investments in YouTube Shorts. However, one of the most notable changes is the war against blockers.
A new era in YouTube ads
YouTube has been waging a serious war against ad blockers for a while now. While third-party developers produce new solutions to block ads, YouTube is also developing new methods to overcome these solutions. We have previously reported that YouTube has been working on server-side ad injections recently.
Some Reddit users shared that they saw a black segment of several seconds appearing on the screen while using an ad blocker. This indicates that YouTube is trying a new method.
If you have never used an ad blocker before, normally in this scenario the ad blocker will cut the ad and allow you to watch the video without interruption. However, with YouTube’s new server-side ad injection methods, existing ad blockers cannot prevent this situation. This results in users seeing a black screen on the screen.
In addition to being the only legal way to get rid of ads on the platform, YouTube Premium also offers many additional benefits, such as access to YouTube Music Premium, watching videos offline and PiP (Picture-in-Picture) mode. However, some users do not want to pay for YouTube Premium and argue that the content should be free.
YouTube recently announced changes to its YouTube Help blog aimed at strengthening the security of its browser extensions. It was stated that these changes will protect users from cyber attacks. However, YouTube warned that these changes may disable some browser extensions.
The blog post states that YouTube extensions may cause some users’ videos to not load. This means ad blocker extensions may also be affected.
YouTube recommends users to temporarily disable browser extensions or use the browser in incognito mode in this case. Many users are expressing concern about the new ads, considering these new changes to be a step against ad blockers.
