Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, recently opened a representative office in Turkey. Now, the advertising ban decision given for not appointing a representative for X in Turkey was lifted after the company notified the official addressee and opened a representative office in Istanbul. So now advertisers in Turkey will be able to do this via X.
Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK) lifted the company’s advertising ban, with a decision taken upon X’s compliance with the legal regulations in Turkey. In BTK’s decision titled “Removal of the Decision Prohibiting Advertisements to It was reported that the advertising ban was lifted after the representative fulfilled his obligation to determine and notify as stated in the third article.
This decision is considered a step in the process of compliance with legal regulations regarding X’s activities in Turkey.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdülkadir Uraloğlu announced that the necessary steps have been taken before the band narrowing measures planned after the company’s advertising ban. Uraloğlu stated that the company opened a representative office and warnings were made about band narrowing measures; In response to these measures, it announced at the end of April that it had established a company in Istanbul and appointed a representative.
After X appoints an official representative in Turkey, the company will both pay taxes on its earnings in the country and be subject to direct sanctions when necessary. According to the law, social media companies that initiate the official interlocutor process by declaring a representative are obliged to remove content determined by the court to be unlawful within 24 hours. Now X is one of these companies.
