Alone in the Dark Remake producer Pieces Interactive has closed its doors!

Embracer Group closed another studio. This time, he closed the doors of Pieces Interactive, which recently produced the remake of Alone in the Dark.

In an image shared on Pieces Interactive’s X account, “Pieces Interactive 2007 – 2024. Thank you for playing with us.” The statement is included. On the home page of Pieces’ website, it is stated that the developer has published more than 10 titles in the last 17 years. It also served as a support studio for other projects.

Embracer acquired Pieces Interactive in 2017 and positioned it under the THQ Nordic publishing house. In April, it was reported that Pieces laid off some employees just weeks after releasing Alone in the Dark.

Pieces’ closing comes just weeks after Embracer announced it had completed a restructuring process after a proposed $2 billion investment collapsed a year ago. The company had closed several studios, such as TimeSplitters developer Free Radical Design and Volition (Saints Row), and laid off around 1,400 employees in the second half of 2023. Embracer also divested several studios, selling large parts of Saber Interactive and Gearbox Entertainment.

Meanwhile, another studio is closing its doors. Patrick Morgan, founder of Galvanic Games, announced that the company is closing. Morgan stated that sales of Galvanic’s last game, Wizard with a Gun, were not strong enough to sustain the studio.

By 2024, the number of layoffs in the gaming industry is estimated to be around 10,800. This figure has already exceeded the 10,500 layoffs in the whole of 2023, and we are not yet halfway through the year.
