For those who missed it, AMD had previously officially announced the Strix Point APU series and shared information about the Zen 5 core architecture and Generative AI capabilities. In the new announcement, it will power APUs RDNA 3+ its architecture has been officially confirmed. Accordingly, the new architecture will be an updated version of the current RDNA 3 that we see in Radeon RX 7000 GPUs and Ryzen 7040/8040 APUs.
Considering that AMD’s Ryzen 8040 “Hawk Point” APUs offer up to 16 TOPs of performance, a 3x improvement with the Ryzen 8050 “Strix Point” APUs means we’re looking at up to 48 TOPs of AI performance. We will also see up to 12 cores and 32MB L3 cache in a Hybrid configuration. In this regard, it is stated that Phoenix will be up to 35 percent faster against APUs at 50W.
The more powerful Strix Point Halo series will have a Zen 5 chip design with up to 16 cores and 64MB L3 cache. Therefore, we expect 25 percent faster performance from the 90W 16-core “Dragon Range” APU. All expected improvements are as follows:
