AMD continues to terminate its graphics card series that appeal to the affordable market. Finally, production of the AMD RX 6600 series has been stopped. Information from China revealed that the company suspended chip production.
End of the road for AMD RX 6600 series
AMD; It has been reported that the production of the Radeon RX 6600 RDNA 2 graphics card series, which includes the RX 6600, RX 6600 XT and RX 6650 XT models, has been canceled. According to news from Chinese channels, AMD will now stop producing chips for these GPU models.
The RX 6600 series had become one of AMD’s most popular and affordable options for 1080p gaming since its launch in mid-2021. Cards with Navi 23 GPU; With 8 GB VRAM, it could process resolutions up to 1080p on a 128-bit bus.
However, it turned out that AMD wanted to consume the last stocks and will stop producing the RX 6600 series in this context. Instead of producing RX 6600 chips, the company will focus on the new generation RX 6750 GRE series. The 10GB model of the RX 6750 GRE will be positioned as a replacement for the RX 6600 series.
AMD is expected to keep the entry-level RX 6500 XT in production at least until the end of 2024. However, it seems logical for players looking for a budget-friendly model to choose the RX 7600 based on the RDNA3 architecture or to switch to the RX 6700 series instead of the RX 6600.
AMD is expected to switch production to new RDNA3-based GPU families. Therefore, it is not a surprise that RDNA2-based old generation graphics cards were canceled. Although very successful, AMD had to discontinue the RDNA2-based RX 6000 series.
