Production of the Radeon RX 6600 series stops
According to information from the Asian market, AMD is preparing to cut the production of the Radeon RX 6600 graphics card series, which includes the RX 6600, RX 6600 XT and RX 6650 XT models. Accordingly RX 6600 series will be gradually replaced by the RX 6750 GRE series and the RX 7600 series will fill the remaining gap. At this stage, production of at least the RX 6500 XT is planned to continue until the end of 2024.
It is unclear whether the card will continue to be sold next year, but considering that the AMD RX 7400 and 7300 are also on the way, it will most likely disappear from the market.
To recall, the RX 6600 series was launched in mid-2021 as an entry-level series for those who cannot afford the more expensive RX 6700, 6800 or 6900 XT models. Thus, cards with Navi 23 GPUs with 8GB GDDR6 memory on a 128-bit bus quickly became one of the affordable options. However, the lack of AV1 coding support and the rise of the RTX 2000 and 3000 series in the second-hand market caused the cards to remain in the background.
Even though AMD has decided to discontinue production, it’s likely that these cards will continue to be sold at various retailers for at least a while longer. However, stocks are of course limited and are expected to run out within the next three months.
