A great wind of change is blowing in South Africa. BYD has signed a landmark agreement to build South Africa’s first electric bus fleet. According to the agreement made between BYD South Africa branch and the famous bus operator Golden Arrow, 120 electric buses will be delivered. Additionally, with this agreement, an electric bus fleet will be established for the first time in South Africa.
BYD is establishing a fleet of 120 electric buses in South Africa
BYD’s brand 120 electric buses are specially designed according to the climate conditions and traffic needs of South Africa. Each of the buses is 12.5 meters long and has a capacity of 65 passengers. Equipped with BYD’s self-developed lithium iron phosphate batteries and six unified controllers, these buses are both environmentally friendly and high-performance.
Delivery of the first electric buses will begin in December and all deliveries will be completed by the end of 2025. We don’t hear much about it, but BYD is known for its electric buses around the world and has delivered a total of more than 80 thousand electric buses to date on six continents, in major cities such as Amsterdam, London, Tokyo and Sao Paulo.
BYD intends to be a pioneer of sustainable transportation by providing electric public transport solutions not only in South Africa but also around the world. Electric buses are also very important in terms of reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality in cities.
