For All Mankind returns to Apple TV+ with the fifth season of its space-based alternative history adventures. Considering the positive comments about the fourth season, this should not be surprising. However, the announcement of a side story series called “Star City” focusing on Soviet Russia’s space program is a big surprise.
The creators of the series, Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi, will be behind the Star City project. It is currently unclear who will be in the cast of the series. The plot synopsis calls the series a “powerful expansion” of the universe and describes it as a “propulsive, paranoid thriller.” Star City also looks set to take viewers back to the events of season one of For All Mankind.
Apple’s statement on the subject includes the following statements: “This time, we examine the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, engineers and intelligence officers among them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to move humanity forward.”
Apple did not provide information about the fifth season cast of For All Mankind
The company did not say whether Star City would be based on frequent time jumps like its predecessor, For All Mankind. Apple did not share anything about the cast of the fifth season of For All Mankind. Considering the show’s propensity for extensive time jumps, there’s a good chance that actors like Joel Kinnaman and Krys Marshall will leave. After all, their characters had really aged by season four.
This is really good news for sci-fi fans, but it still doesn’t take away the immense pain of Star Trek: Lower Decks’ cancellation.
