Apple, which dealt a major blow to the Bing search engine, will continue to make Google the default search provider on all its devices and web browsers. The tech giant, which turned down Microsoft’s billion-dollar offer, said Bing was “pretty bad” to be the default browser.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who testified in the antitrust case filed against Google last year, said the software giant was trying to make Bing the default search option on iPhones, iPads and Macs. In this context, they announced that they will pay Apple up to 15 billion dollars annually.
Microsoft even offered to share ad revenue from Bing searches. However, according to the statement of Apple Vice President Eddy Cue, the company rejected these offers. In fact, according to Cue, Microsoft was ready to give the entire company to Apple. Apple still didn’t give up on Google.
Apple’s biggest sticking point seems to be the quality of search results. The tech giant has conducted studies that found that Google provides better results compared to Bing. Microsoft acknowledged that Google has an advantage due to its larger scale and data.
We know that the deal between Google and Apple is worth billions of dollars every year. But Apple insists it’s not about money, but about providing the best experience for users. The fact that Google scores higher than Bing in terms of search quality also enables the company to choose Google.
Although Microsoft tries to bring Bing to the forefront with its artificial intelligence integration, it cannot compete with a service like Google. Let us note that it still remains at 2 percent in the browser market.
