It looks like Apple will soon be fined 500 million euros by the European Union. The company could also be penalized for anti-competitive App Store policies towards online music platforms, The Financial Times reported.
While the news included information from five sources closely related to the issue, it was stated that the decision could be announced in the first days of next month.
The investigation, which is said to lead to Apple being penalized, was initiated due to a complaint made by Spotify in 2019. The investigation in question was launched at that time because Apple did not allow users to direct users to alternative payment methods outside the application. The Cupertino-based company later relaxed this policy.
According to The Financial Times, the European Commission will announce a decision that Apple violates the EU’s anti-monopoly law. In addition, it will announce a decision that the company has created “unfair trading conditions” due to the App Store’s anti-referral obligations.
