Apple announced its earnings results for the third quarter of fiscal 2024 and 5 percent growth year over year It met investors’ expectations at the highest level. The company broke a third quarter record with $85.8 billion in revenue.
iPhone revenue decline
Despite this growth, overall iPhone sales and revenue in China have drifted downward. Revenue in China fell 6.3 percent from a year ago to $14.7 billion as Apple faces stiff competition from Huawei and other smartphone companies. Overall, iPhone sales were down from the same quarter last year. A slight decrease from $39.67 billion to $39.3 billion this year showed. As a percentage of total sales, the iPhone has had the lowest share of the company’s other products and services for almost four years.
Despite iPhone decline, it generated revenue from other services and iPad sales
The company generated revenue from services and iPad sales despite the iPhone’s decline. Apple introduced major new iPad updates in the third quarter of 2024, so iPad revenue increased almost 24 percent to $7.16 billion. Services, including products such as Apple TV + and Apple Music, also witnessed a 14 percent increase.
Among other product categories, “Wearables, Home and Accessories” decreased 2 percent during the quarter to $8.1 billion. Mac sales increased by 2 percent, reaching approximately $7 billion. Apple pointed out that a large percentage of those who purchased both Apple Watch and iPad this quarter were first-time buyers of these device categories, and stated that the market has not yet reached saturation for both.
Tim Cook spent much of his earnings call promoting Apple Intelligence, the suite of generative AI features that will arrive with iOS 18.1 this fall.
