Apple tests iPhone models in this secret insulated room

First of all, let us point out that these special areas are designed to examine the performance of the iPhone down to the smallest detail. The purpose of the tests performed in the anechoic chamber is to measure the performance of the device’s microphones under ideal conditions and to detect even the slightest errors. Since this special environment is an area where external sounds are reduced to zero, the frequency response, sensitivity and directional properties of the microphones are clearly evaluated.

Apple engineers say the iPhone’s microphones are equipped with extraordinary engineering. Although the device has only four small microphones, it performs close to professional voice recorders thanks to Audio Mix. As far as we can see, in the tests, the iPhone 16 Pro is placed on a tripod and 24 speakers are positioned around the device like a snow globe, playing sounds of different frequencies.

While the microphones record these sounds, engineers analyze the data obtained and evaluate the performance of each microphone. Patrick Holland’s next stop was a theater-sized laboratory where he tested Apple’s video performance. This huge area is also used to optimize the performance of iPhone screens in different light conditions.

The large screen in the laboratory allows the iPhone’s display settings, such as color, contrast and brightness, to be compared to ideal standards. The screen can simulate different scenarios, from an environment as dark as in a movie theater to bright sunlight outdoors.
