Two years after Apple first filed a lawsuit against chip startup Rivos for stealing its trade secrets, it has decided to settle with the company. According to what was shared, Rivos and Apple informed the judge that they planned to finalize the agreement by March 15.
Apple filed a lawsuit against the “secret mode” initiative in May 2022 and accused Rivos of recruiting engineers who had access to confidential company information. In the lawsuit filed by Apple, it was claimed that former employees stole private information at the request of Rivos as part of the hiring process.
The lawsuit alleged that the company orchestrated a coordinated campaign to lure Apple employees and encourage them to copy confidential documents before leaving the company. This incident also meant that the employees in question had violated their contracts with Apple. “Beginning in June 2021, Rivos launched a coordinated campaign targeting Apple employees who had access to Apple-proprietary and trade secret information about Apple’s SoC designs,” the Apple complaint said.
Rivos responded with his own lawsuit against Apple in September 2023, accusing Apple of using intimidation and other tactics to dissuade its engineers from leaving.
Now, information has emerged that Apple and Rivos will reach an agreement to resolve the case. The agreement calls for redaction of Apple’s confidential information based on a forensic review of Rivos systems and other activities, according to a filing in federal court in San Jose. The parties are reportedly currently working on this process. We will see how the case will be resolved in the future.
