In the summer of 2022, Pinterest introduced Shuffles, an iOS app that allows users to create collages from photos and images sourced from Pinterest’s website. The app quickly gained popularity among Generation Z and was integrated into Pinterest’s main platform. The company reports that these AI-powered collages generate three times more engagement than its traditional Pins.
The collage feature allows users to Pinterest, allowing them to create unique expressions of style, interests or themes by combining content from the web and their own camera photos. Originally, users used Shuffles to create mood boards or collages and shared them on TikTok, often with music.
Now, users are creating collages on more topics, showcasing home decor ideas, fashion, skin care or makeup products they want to try.
AI-Powered Collages Are More Popular Than Traditional Pins
While creating a collage requires more effort than saving Pins to a board, Pinterest has noted a significant increase in usage of this feature. Users are nearly three times more likely to save collage Pins than traditional Pins, and a significant portion of those collages contain clickable products, CEO Bill Ready said in the first quarter 2024 earnings call.
Pinterest’s latest earnings report beat expectations, largely due to the growth of its Gen Z user base and a resurgence in brand advertising. The company generated $740 million in revenue in the first quarter of 2024, an increase of 23% compared to the same period of the previous year. This was recorded as the fastest revenue growth for Pinterest since 2021.
