OpenAI aims to provide users with fast and timely answers with clear and relevant resources. SearchGPT announced the prototype of its artificial intelligence-supported search engine. The company said it plans to integrate the tool, which is currently in alpha testing with a small group of users, into its viral chatbot ChatGPT at some point.
In terms of user interface, SearchGPT is quite similar to OpenAI’s chatbot platform, ChatGPT. When you perform a search, SearchGPT provides information and photos from around the web, along with links to relevant resources. At this point you can ask follow-up questions on the topic or explore additional related searches in a sidebar.
Some searches take your location into account. In a support document, OpenAI explains that SearchGPT collects and shares general location information with third-party search providers to improve the accuracy of results. SearchGPT also allows users to share more precise location information via a toggle in the settings menu.
“Getting answers on the web can take a lot of effort, often requiring multiple attempts to get relevant results,” OpenAI wrote in its blog post. “We believe that by enhancing our models’ conversational abilities with real-time information from the web, finding what you are looking for can be faster and easier.” said.
Since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, Alphabet investors have been concerned that OpenAI could take market share from Google in search by offering consumers new ways to seek information online. Now it looks like investors’ concerns will come true.
