E-consoles have become indispensable, especially for frequent travelers. ASUS ROG Ally X has a similar design approach to the previous model ROG Ally, but there are changes in terms of hardware and some details.

Controllers have joysticks and the X, A, Y and B keys that we are used to seeing on Xbox controllers are positioned on the right side. There are lighting LEDs around these joysticks. In order to switch to other menus of the console, you can switch to Command Center on the left and from there you can adjust various modes such as silent mode, performance mode and turbo mode. You can access game markets and platforms from the button on the right.

There are two Dolby Atmos supported speakers on the front. On the top, there are ventilation grilles, jack input, microSD card input and two USB ports. There is a fingerprint reader on the power button and there are also buttons to turn the volume of the device on and off. There is one Thunderbolt 4 and one USB 3.2 Gen 2 port in the input and outputs. On the back, there are two smaller buttons and ventilation channels.

ROG Ally X has a 7-inch touch screen with 1080p resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. The screen, which has 100% sRGB color gamut, offers 500 nits maximum brightness and is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus technology. The screen, supported by FreeSync Premium technology, offers a very satisfying experience while playing games.

On the processor side, there is AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme. This processor has 8 cores and a clock speed of 5.1 GHz. Radeon RDNA 2 graphics card is used as the graphics unit. Supported by 24 GB LPDDR5x RAM, this system provides high performance and low power consumption. It has 1 TB M.2 SSD storage and up to 8 GB adjustable VRAM for heavy games.

Test results

In the Geekbench test, the single-core scored 1849 and the multi-core scored 4825. It achieved a score of 24327 on the GPU side. In the Cinebench R23 test, it scored 1687 single-core and 13536 multi-core points. In the CrystalDiskMark test, 5000 MB/s reading and 3037 MB/s writing speeds were achieved. Additionally, external GPU (eGPU) support is also available.

Game performance

At medium settings, most games run between 50-70 FPS. In Forza Horizon 5, it performs at 50-60 FPS at ultra settings, in Cyberpunk 2077, at 70 FPS while charging, and at 45-50 FPS on battery. In games like CSGO, it exceeds 200 FPS. While gaming, the device’s fans work well and reach temperatures of 70-75 degrees.

The new model has an 80 watt hour battery. This battery, which is twice the size of the previous model, ensures long-term use of the device. It offers an average of 5-6 hours of gaming experience. 2-3 hours of use is possible at high settings. The heating problem is kept at a minimum level, 70-75 degrees are quite sufficient for a game played on ultra.

The device provides easy access to all buttons with its ergonomic design. Weighing 678 grams and 24.75 mm thick, ROG Ally X is also advantageous in terms of portability. The device, which comes with the Windows 11 operating system, can be used like a small computer. It is possible to install games from many game libraries.
