Meta has decided to end WhatsApp support on older Android phones. More specifically, devices older than 10 years still run Android KitKat. Phones still running that OS version or earlier will not be able to access WhatsApp starting January 1, 2025.
The reason for the discontinuation of support is WhatsApp’s evolving features and functions. The meta includes more demanding features, AI functions, etc. that require more modern hardware. trying to implement it. Here are the phone models whose support has ended:
Samsung: Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy
S4 Mini
Motorola: Moto G (1. Nesil), Razr HD, Moto E 2014
HTC: One X, One X+, Desire 500, Desire 601
LG: Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2 Mini, L90
Sony: Xperia Z, Xperia SP, Xperia T, Xperia V
Maybe some of you are still using these devices as backup phones, but if you are still using any of them for daily use, you should transfer all your WhatsApp data to a newer device. Otherwise, all your media and chat history on WhatsApp will be lost after January 1, 2025.
Meta announced something similar for iPhones a few months ago, ending support for iPhones with iOS operating systems older than version 15.1. However, the company will continue support for these devices until May 2025.
