Automotive giants began to act more conservative than before regarding the transition to the electric age. Audi, which will finish the Q8 e-tron earlier than expected due to the decrease in demand, will focus on rechargeable hybrid (PHEV) models instead of 100% electric models in the coming period.
Speaking to Autocar, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner said that the Volkswagen Group sees PHEVs as a bridge to the transition to the electric age and that this transition will take longer than expected. For this reason, Audi will start offering more PHEV models in the future.
Of course, Audi’s electric vehicle plans are not completely shelved. The brand, which has four electric models in its current product range, will expand the range with the new A6 e-tron and A4 e-tron models in the future.
Apart from Audi, companies such as Mercedes, BMW, Ford, Kia and Stellantis also announced that they would increase their investments in hybrid vehicles for the same reasons.
