Baldur’s Gate 3 surpasses 15 million copies
For those who missed it, about a month ago, Larian’s Michael Douse announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 sold “much more” than 10 million units. Larian CEO Swen Vincke clarified this figure in a new interview and stated that Baldur’s Gate 3 Divinity nearly doubles Original Sin 2 he stated. When we do a little comparison, this is about to a figure of 15 million pointing out.
Let us point out that the figure in question is an incredible success for Larian. Additionally, if it reaches Nintendo Switch and iPad, as in Divinity, we can see the numbers double even more. But the bad news is that no DLC or sequel is planned for Baldur’s Gate 3. Larian’s founder explained the thinking behind this decision as follows:
When it came to Baldur’s Gate 3, everyone was telling us, ‘You should do DLC and actually start a sequel, it was so successful and made so much money.’ For a while I was like, yeah, this is what we have to do, we have to change our plans and do this. The team actually said yes, we should do this.
But later in the year I realized we were not made for this. This is the exact opposite of Larian. We want to do big new things, we don’t want to repeat things we’ve done before, so we said we wouldn’t do that. So we went back to our original plan, which was the next and bigger one.
So what’s next for Larian? Reportedly, two games were selected after Baldur’s Gate 3. It is unclear what these games will be, but they will be big, ambitious, different from what Larian has done before, but at the same time familiar. Of course, it is difficult to guess what Larian has in mind. However, it may be referring to the Divinity series.
