Two giant names in the technology world, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, left their mark on the industry when they were at the helm of Microsoft and Apple. Gates’ admiration for Jobs’ charismatic personality and ability to influence the audience was known, but a newly released book revealed that Gates’ admiration for the Apple founder was at the level of jealousy.
Bill Gates: “He was a wizard!”
The book titled “BILLIONAIRE, NERD, SAVIOR, KING: Bill Gates and His Quest to Shape Our World”, written by New York Times reporter Anupreeta Das, revealed an interesting story from the Macworld event held in Boston in 1997.
While it was said that Apple was on the verge of bankruptcy at that time and was saved by Microsoft’s $150 million investment, Bill Gates refused to attend the event in person and preferred to speak via satellite connection.
In the book, Gates’ admiration for Jobs during this conference is described as follows:
“Gates was sitting thousands of miles away in one of Microsoft’s television studios, watching his rival. As he saw Jobs’ relaxed attitude on stage, the humor in his speech and his impressive performance, he was lost in feelings of both admiration and jealousy. He turned to his colleague next to him and asked, ‘How does he do this?’ ” he was heard asking.
Although Bill Gates’ admiration at the level of ‘jealousy’ was not reflected in his statements, he still had nice words about Jobs after his death. Speaking about Jobs in a podcast, Gates said, “Bill and I met almost 30 years ago. During this time, colleague, rakip and we became friends. It’s rare for the world to see someone who makes such a profound impact as Steve. It was an incredible honor for all of us who had the chance to work with him. “I will miss Steve very much.” He spoke as follows.
