Seems like Jeff Bezos‘s space research company, Blue Origin, will send a 90-year-old astronaut into space on its next mission. Thus, years later, Ed Dwight will realize his dreams and become one of the very few black astronauts.
Dwight, who will travel on the new generation spacecraft called New Shepard, will be one of the 6 people in the crew. The vehicle, which will make its first manned expedition, is expected to make important discoveries. Here are the most important details about the subject…
Blue Origin is on the agenda with its radical astronaut decision
In its official statement, Blue Origin management stated that Ed Dwight was personally selected by the then American President John F. Kennedy as the first black astronaut candidate in history in 1961, but he did not have the opportunity. It is said that Dwight, who is also a former US Air Force member, successfully completed the Aerospace Research Pilot School in the country. However, Dwight was unable to travel to space due to the racism he was exposed to.
Along with Ed Dwight, Mason Angel, Sylvain Chiron, Kenneth Hess, Carol Schaller and Gopi Thotakura will also participate in the highly anticipated space expedition. It is known that quite a large amount of money was paid to participate in the expedition. According to leaks, Dwight’s participation fee will be covered by Space for Humanity and Jaison-Jamie Robinson foundations. Blue Origin management seems quite confident that the expedition will be completed successfully.
