BMW sold 1.1 million vehicles, increasing its total sales, including electric vehicles, by 2.3% in the first six months of 2024. 180 thousand of these vehicles are electric vehicles, which means there is a significant increase of 34% compared to last year. So how did BMW manage to make such a big splash in the luxury electric vehicle market?
BMW is on the rise in the number of electric vehicles: Mercedes and Audi sales are in decline
If we look at other German manufacturers other than BMW, Mercedes-Benz is having a bit of a hard time. In the same period, they were able to sell 960 thousand vehicles, with a decrease of 6%. There is an even larger decline of 17% in electric vehicle sales. They could only sell 93 thousand 400 electric vehicles. Mercedes stated that electric vehicle production has slowed down in some important markets and is focusing on healthy growth. Looks like they need some tidying up.
Audi is having a similarly difficult time. They were able to sell 833 thousand vehicles, a decrease of 8% in the first six months, but recorded a 1.3% increase in electric vehicle sales. There is a glimmer of hope, albeit a small one. Porsche, on the other hand, was able to sell 155 thousand 900 vehicles, with a decrease of 7%. So, overall, the situation is not very encouraging.
BMW draws attention especially with the great increase in electric vehicle sales and is a leader in this field. They managed to increase their sales and have a strong presence in the electric vehicle market. So how permanent will this success be? Can BMW maintain this performance? We will see together.
