Throughout history, space has been one of the areas that humanity has always wondered about and at the same time feared. Humanity has constantly investigated the deep and endless universe and tried to suppress the sense of curiosity. Along with this, aviation and space companies have emerged. Boeing, one of these companies, has been having unfortunate times regarding spaceships lately. Here are the details…
Boeing CST-100 Starliner spaceship got stuck on the International Space Station!
Boeing’s spacecraft CST-100 Starliner was stranded on the International Space Station (ISS). The vehicle, which was scheduled to begin its first crewed mission on May 6, was able to reach the ISS in early June after a series of delays. However, the return date has been postponed many times, and now NASA has announced that Starliner may return on July 2 at the earliest.
The reason for the delay is helium leaks detected in the ship’s propulsion system. Helium is used to power the vehicle’s thrusters. This problem existed before launch, but was not considered serious enough to halt the mission. But now, in line with the saying “the unexpected comes to fruition”, NASA and Boeing engineers are dealing with this problem, which they initially considered unimportant.
Michael Lembeck, professor of aerospace engineering at the University of Illinois, says there may be many reasons for helium leaks. Parts may have been installed incorrectly or there may be other factors affecting the helium tanks. But there is only one thing known for sure. This problem has to be solved.
There are also some concerns about the safety of astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams aboard the Starliner. However, NASA stated that there was enough helium for Starliner to return. At the press conference on June 18, it was said that the ship needed seven hours of helium for its return and that there was 70 hours of helium on board.
Of course, everything may seem okay on paper. However, a different leak problem may cause very serious problems. Of course, however, large prices may also be paid. So what do you think about this issue? Don’t forget to share your opinions with us in the comments section…
