Chery, a Chinese automotive company, is interested in two Volkswagen factories to produce cars in Germany. According to the latest information, the parties are conducting negotiations on the transfer of production facilities in Dresden and Osnabrück.
Chery will buy Volkswagen’s factories
In recent months, it was revealed that Chinese brands were interested in these facilities, where Volkswagen evaluated closing within the scope of cost -reducing policy. Now, in order to strengthen the presence of Chery in the European market, the agenda of the movement to produce in these facilities has been on the agenda.
While the Chery management confirms its plans to produce in Germany; He did not make an official statement as to whether the talks were held with Volkswagen. Charlie Zhang, Vice President of Chery International, said the final decision will be given after the details such as workers’ trade unions, supply chains and operational costs.
In case of agreement, Chery plans to produce the new brand of Lepas, introduced in these factories on April 2, 2025. Models to be released under the name of lepas will be the redesigned versions of Chery’s current Tiggo series.
These vehicles will be produced in Europe, internal combustion engine, rechargeable hybrid and full electric power transfer options. The production range includes two compact SUVs and one medium SUV model.
On the other hand, Chery’s investment plans for Türkiye remain uncertain. In the past weeks, Samsun was investing in a factory investment of 1 billion dollars. Whether these claims turn into reality will be determined in the coming days.
