Historical success from China
So far from the far side of the Moon no sample collection missions have been carried out before. In fact, only one mission has ever made a soft landing on the far side of the Moon. It was Chang’e 4, which belonged to China in 2019. Chang’e 6 thus became the first mission to bring samples collected from the far side of the Moon to Earth.
Chang’e 6, which landed on the satellite on June 1, collected data from this part of the Moon that is never visible from Earth. about 2 kilograms weight samples were launched into orbit with a booster on June 3. The capsule in orbit collected these extremely valuable samples and set off on a journey to Earth. This capsule is available today, Türkiye time. 09:07’de China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region landed.
China’s success could reveal deep information about the Moon
The far side of the Moon is a completely different story and looks nothing like the part facing us, the Earth, even in terms of appearance. This surface, which has countless craters, cannot be seen by humans because the Moon remains gravitationally locked to the Earth. That’s why we sometimes call the side of the Moon that we cannot see “the dark side of the Moon”.
Because the far side faces away from Earth, a relay satellite is required to communicate with spacecraft operating there. China launched one such relay satellite, called Queqiao, before Chang’e 4, and sent another satellite, called Queqiao 2, into lunar orbit last March to prepare for Chang’e 6 and subsequent surface missions. Another factor that makes going to this far face difficult is its surface structure. The far side of the Moon has many craters and, unlike its known side, lacks plains, that is, areas suitable for landing.
For all these reasons, most aspects of the far side of the Moon remained a mystery until today. Samples collected by China SPA basin formed 4.26 billion years agoIt can provide in-depth information about This could provide answers to important questions about the history of the Moon and even the Solar System.
It is assumed that water on Earth was brought by asteroids billions of years ago. Sample samples are expected to provide valuable information on this subject. On the other hand, China’s Moon plans do not end with Chang’e 6. The country plans to launch Chang’e 7 and Chang’e 8 in 2026 and 2028, respectively. China’s ultimate goal is to establish a base near the Moon’s water-rich south pole.
