Researchers from China’s Beihang University broke a record in speed and ability by developing a new microrobot called BHMbot-B. Only 15mm long and 2 grams The robot, weighing 15.5 kg, became one of the fastest micro robots in the world. In fact, it is so fast that it exceeds the movement speed of many real insects. Here are the details…
China has developed a microrobot called BHMbot-B that is faster than many real insects: So how does it work?
Unique in its ability to move forward and backward, the robotic insect can move forward at 38.7 body lengths per second (BL/s) and backward at 44 BL/s. In fact, the movement mechanism of BHMbot-B is based on an electromagnetic actuator system. A magnet, a coil and a connection mechanism inside create vibrations with the help of an alternating current.
The vibrations make the robot move forward or backward. Orientation is controlled by changing the vibration frequency, allowing the robot to move without turning its direction. BHMbot-B is assertive in many aspects other than speed. For example, load up to 32 times its own weight The robot can handle heavy loads at a speed of 3.2 BL/s.
Moreover, it can move smoothly on different surfaces such as glass, sand and even curved pipes. So in which areas will it be used? In fact, the potential uses of the microrobot are quite wide. Among them:
- Search and rescue operations in narrow spaces.
- Data collection by equipping microscopic cameras and sensors.
- Precision tasks and operations in industrial robotics applications.
Unlike previous microrobots, BHMbot-B can maneuver backwards without losing position when changing the direction of movement. Researchers are continuing their work at full speed to further improve the robot’s capabilities. The next step is to integrate autonomous navigation and environmental sensing capabilities. Thus, the robot will be able to move completely independently.
In what areas do you think such robots will be used in the future? You can write your opinions in the comments section below.
