Social media platforms know how critical friend adding processes are, especially during growth stages. The more friends people add to the platform, the more they interact, which increases the retention rate on the platform. With Apple’s new move, it seems likely that users will select a small number of contacts from the contacts. In this case, users of social media applications will be able to add fewer friends and interaction rates will decrease.

Some developers think that this change leads to unfair competition. Apple’s own apps, such as iMessage, are not subject to such restrictions. This brings with it criticisms such as “Apple protects its own ecosystem and leaves others in a difficult situation.”
