CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz has been called to Congress to testify about last Friday’s massive outage, which brought services from flights to hospital procedures to a halt. This outage due to the “CrowdStrike” security software has negatively affected many businesses and now the details are emerging.
CrowdStrike CEO to testify over massive outage
George Kurtz was called to testify before the House Homeland Security Committee about CrowdStrike’s buggy update that caused a massive outage on Windows PCs. The outage brought flights, hospital operations and broadcasters to a halt, the Washington Post reported. Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection Subcommittee Chairman Andrew Garbarino stated in a letter that “Americans deserve to know in detail how this incident occurred and the precautions CrowdStrike took.”
CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz stated in a statement on social media that the major outage was not a security or cyber incident. Instead, it stated that it was an issue with a content update to Windows Hosts for Falcon, the company’s security software. Following this outage, Kurtz made various statements to inform the public and alleviate concerns.
CrowdStrike spokesman Kevin Benacci stated that the company is actively communicating with relevant Congressional Committees. Committee Members stated that information and other interaction calendars could be announced. This process shows that CrowdStrike’s work on cleaning the technical malfunction has not yet been completed. Three days after the outage, some airlines like Delta are still dealing with flight cancellations and blue screen errors.
