The recently renewed Disney+ application may soon have always-on TV channels showing Star Wars and Marvel content. According to The Information, these channels will operate similar to advertising platforms Plato and Tubi. It is worth noting that such channels are available in services such as Blu TV and Exxen in our country, and these channels are also available on Turkcell’s TV+ platform.
The channels in question will appeal to those who like to watch what they come across on television rather than watching what they choose themselves. In addition to Marvel and Star Wars content, channels that will show Disney’s classic animations and Pixar’s movies are expected to be offered to users. It is also among the information provided that advertisements will be shown on these channels.
It is not yet known when the new channels will start broadcasting. There is no statement from Disney on the subject yet. However, the move in question seems to be compatible with Disney’s goal of keeping users in the application. In this regard, the company integrated Hulu into the application in the countries it serves.
Disney’s decision also demonstrates the growing popularity of its policy of displaying ads on online platforms. According to Bloomberg, viewers in the US watch Tubi, a platform with ads, for longer periods of time than ad-free platforms such as Peacock, Max and Paramount Plus. Such channels make it possible for viewers to experience more comfortably without being completely locked into the content on the screen.
Disney+ channels may not be available in all regions initially
It seems likely that the new channels will only be available in certain countries at first. After the first results, it will not be a surprise if Disney management makes a clearer decision regarding the coverage area of the channels.
