DJI aims to carry its success in drone technology to the electric bicycle market. The company’s newly introduced Amflow PL electric mountain bike attracts attention with its Avinox driving system and fast charging features. This new model, planned to be released by the end of the year, also makes a difference with its carbon fiber structure and lightweight design.
Amflow PL is equipped with the Avinox motor system developed by DJI. This system can easily overcome even the steepest slopes by providing 120Nm maximum torque and 1000W instant power. Additionally, the silent mid-drive motor produces 250W nominal power and 850W peak power. The bike’s removable 800Wh battery can be fast-charged to 75 percent in just 1.5 hours with Amflow’s 2A/508W GaN charger.
DJI’s breakthrough in the field of electric bicycles with Amflow PL
Despite all this power and battery capacity, Amflow PL weighs only 19.2 kg. This lightness is possible thanks to the bike’s 2.27 kg carbon fiber body and 2.52 kg Avinox driving system. Thanks to the two-inch color OLED touch screen integrated into the body of the bike and the Avinox application, users can instantly view all riding data by accessing the bike wirelessly. Additionally, in case of any problem, the bike gives an alarm and can provide location notification via the application.
The bike has four pedal assist modes. These modes include automatic mode, and thanks to this mode, the bike can automatically adjust power distribution according to riding resistance. In addition to all this, the Amflow PL offers a USB charging port for a phone or cycling computer, a Fox full suspension system and a body compatible with both 27.5-inch and 29-inch rear wheels.
“The battery and motor technology expertise we have accumulated in drone and camera stabilization systems led to the creation of Avinox,” said DJI Senior Director of Corporate Strategy Christina Zhang. “As we specialize in reliable motor development, battery management, mechanical design and engineering, expanding into the electric bike space was a natural step for us.” says. DJI has also been developing smart driving solutions for cars in China in recent years, and these solutions are already used in some car models. More recently, it entered the large consumer battery market with its first power stations.
Amflow PL is expected to be available in the fourth quarter. DJI states that the price will be between €7,000 and €12,000, which puts it in direct competition with premium electric sports bikes such as Specialized’s Turbo series. Amflow PL will be available from authorized dealers in countries such as Germany, the United Kingdom and Australia.
DJI’s experience and expertise in drone technology played an important role in the development of Amflow PL. This bike aims to offer its users a high-level riding experience with its high-performance engine, fast-charging battery and lightweight structure. This new move by DJI will increase competition in the electric bicycle market and reshape users’ expectations.
