Elon Musk, who bought Twitter last year, has made many changes to the company since then. Musk not only changed the name of the company to X, but also brought many new features to the platform. One of these was the ability to make voice and video calls via X. It is claimed that if this feature becomes widespread enough, we will not need a phone line to make calls.
In his post on X, Elon Musk announced that he will share his phone number with everyone soon. Claiming that he will now only be able to make calls with the X’s voice calling feature, Musk said that he no longer needs a phone line. However, the fact that only subscribers paying a monthly fee of $ 8 can make calls on the platform strengthens the claims that this is just a marketing strategy.
In addition, the decision to abandon telephone lines altogether does not seem possible in terms of security. Many digital features that we actively use today require SMS verification. For example, when we make a large purchase with our bank card, receiving confirmation with a small SMS code significantly reduces the security risk.
Even Musk’s own platform, X, requires SMS confirmation for premium user verification. Although it seems perfectly reasonable to use the X for voice and video calls from time to time, we can say that it does not make sense to stop using a personal phone line because of this.
