When Marvel Studios announced it would return to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, expectations were high. Following the theatrical release of Deadpool and Wolverine, Marvel gave us a glimpse into the future of the MCU. And what a future! Before we get into the explosive announcements in the closing moments of the panel, let’s take a look at all the news Marvel shared at Comic-Con on Saturday night.
Marvel made big announcements at Comic-Con 2024:
Captain America: Brave New World (February 14, 2025)
Marvel plans to release three films in 2025, the first of which will be Captain America: Brave New World. Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) will take on the role of Captain America, Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford) will be Red Hulk, and Tim Blake Nelson will reprise his role as The Leader. On Saturday, Marvel shared more footage from the movie, and we learned that President Ross said the Celestial in Eternals is made of adamantium. We also learned that Giancarlo Esposito will be playing Sidewinder, King of the Serpent Society.
Thunderbolts* (May 2, 2025)
Next announcement Thunderbolts* (the asterisk actually exists) It happened, but there wasn’t much news. Red Guardian (David Harbour) and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) are reunited, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) is in Avengers Tower, and Lewis Pullman’s “Bob” aka Robert Reynolds, a.k.a. Footage of his first appearance as the other Sentry was shown.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25, 2025)
Marvel’s Fantastic Four movie is officially called The Fantastic Four: First Steps and begins shooting next week. Set in the retro-futuristic 1960s, the film will have a score composed by Michael Giacchino. Giacchino has also worked on films such as Doctor Strange and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Avengers: Doomsday
Just when it seemed like Marvel Studios wouldn’t be making any big announcements at the panel, Kevin Feige brought out the big guns. First, Avengers: Doomsday became the new name of the movie, which was previously called Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
It will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Endgame) and will focus on legendary Marvel villain Doctor Doom. The most important detail is that it was announced that Robert Downey Jr. will return to the MCU as Doctor Doom.
Avengers: Secret Wars
It was also announced that the Russo brothers will direct two upcoming Avengers movies. This means they will direct both films, as they did with Infinity War and Endgame. As mentioned above, Downey Jr.’s Victor von Doom will also be seen in Avengers: Secret Wars.
Marvel continues to excite its fans with these announcements made at Comic-Con 2024. Two new Avengers movies and other projects will be a big step into the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
