Faraday Future, which attracted attention with its luxury electric car FF 91 at CES 2017 eight years ago, could not gain the momentum it wanted due to the financial crises, bankruptcy processes and lawsuits it experienced over the years. The company has only been able to sell “15 or 16” FF 91 model vehicles so far. However, with its new plan introduced at CES 2025, it aims to offer affordable electric vehicles under the low-cost “FX” brand.
Faraday Future’s new strategy involves producing affordable, high-volume vehicles in the United States by sourcing parts from Chinese automakers. The company aims to reach a wider user base without compromising the luxury features of these vehicles. FX CEO Max Ma said in an interview with Engadget, “We aim to improve the user experience by moving the technology, features and performance of a $ 300,000 car to a $ 30,000-40,000 vehicle.”
The flagship of the FX brand will be a minivan called “Super One”. The company describes this vehicle as an “artificial intelligence multi-purpose vehicle” (AI MPV). Two minivan prototypes introduced at CES 2025 aimed to embody this concept.
The first prototype showed how it would be possible to deliver a luxury cabin experience in a low-cost vehicle. The vehicle had two rows of white leather captain’s chairs, and the second row seats were equipped with features such as heating, massage and foot support. A small refrigerator under the center console also provided easy access to beverages. However, door handles and some other parts were missing from the vehicle. Faraday representatives stated that this situation was temporary, saying, “Of course there will be door handles.”
The second prototype was exhibited in an unfinished state. The interior was completely covered in black fabric, which was held in place with clamps. However, members of the press were offered the opportunity for a small test drive. The vehicle was tested at slow speeds in a Las Vegas parking lot. The company promises that the minivan’s driving experience will improve in later versions.
Other models planned to be introduced under the FX brand include FX 5 and FX 6. FX 5 is expected to be in a price range of $20,000-30,000, while FX 6 is expected to be in a price range of $30,000-50,000. Faraday Future defines the FX 6 model as an “extra-large luxury artificial intelligence-supported electric vehicle”. The company shared only a teaser image of this model and the details are not yet clear.
Faraday Future has not yet made agreements with parts suppliers
The company’s goal is to roll a “pre-production” model off the production line by the end of 2025. However, Faraday Future CEO Matthias Aydt admitted that a definitive agreement has not yet been reached with the companies that will provide vehicle parts. Additionally, no clear explanation was made about how customs tariffs would affect this process.
Considering Faraday Future’s past management issues and delays, there are still many question marks for this startup. However, Max Ma stated that they will make efforts to dispel doubts. “This is really kind of a new beginning. “We want to show that with hard work and determination we can deliver on our promises,” he added.
