Fortnite returns to iOS: Only available in the EU

popular game Fortnitehas finally returned to the iOS platform, more than four years after it was removed from the iOS App Store by Apple. However, this return will only be valid in European Union (EU) countries for now. The game is available for download on the new iPhone version of the Epic Games Store and AltStore PAL, a third-party app store. At the same time, Epic Games Store is now available worldwide for Android users.

This launch took place as a result of long legal battles between Epic Games and Apple and the regulations introduced by the EU’s Digital Markets Act. This law forced Apple to allow alternative app stores. Epic Games also plans to offer its games on platforms such as Aptoide’s iOS store and ONE Store on Android. Tim Sweeney, founder and CEO of Epic Games, stated that they are grateful to the European Digital Markets Act and expressed that they are very excited about Fortnite returning to iOS in Europe.

Epic Games Store mobile version and new games

In addition to Fortnite, Epic Games will also offer its popular games such as Rocket League Sideswipe and Fall Guys, which is offered for the first time on the mobile platform, to users through the Epic Games Store. However, iOS users may encounter some difficulties when installing the Epic Games Store on their devices. For example, after scanning the QR code on Epic’s website, a warning appears that you must have iOS 17.6 or higher. However, Epic’s own FAQ section states that it can be installed with iOS 17.4 or higher.

Despite these developments, Fortnite’s new Marvel-themed season could be a big reason for a return for players in the EU. Sweeney states that there will be no problem with Fortnite being updated simultaneously around the world.

Frictions between Apple and Epic Games continue

Epic Games’ store plans for iOS have been steadily slowed down by Apple. In March, Apple shut down Epic’s developer account and branded the company “untrustworthy.” The background of this development was that Epic knowingly violated Apple’s rules. However, with the intervention of the European Commission, Apple reactivated Epic’s account. Despite this, Apple continued to introduce new fees. Epic’s president, Steve Allison, stated that Apple’s moves make the transition to third-party stores even more difficult.

Epic Games continues to set big goals in the mobile game market despite Apple’s obstacles. The company plans to reach 100 million new mobile store installations by the end of the year. However, Apple’s high fees and tough rules pose a serious obstacle to achieving these goals.
