Epic Games, Fortnite has always had a habit of adapting it to current cultural trends, and this time is no different. After a strong season focused on Greek gods and monsters, the battle royale game’s latest major revamp leans into a vehicle-focused, post-apocalyptic theme. Fortnite’s Chapter 5 Season 3 will debut under the name “Wrecked”.
This new season seems to be inspired by Mad Max, with a desert theme and modified vehicles. It also includes an official Fallout collaboration. It will be possible to unlock a version of Magneto from X-Men through battle pass missions in July.
These changes dovetail quite timely with cultural events like the success of Prime Video’s Fallout adaptation, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga hitting theaters, and X-Men ’97’s renewed popularity among ’90s kids. Wrecked season will run until August 16.
The sandstorm that has been on the horizon for the past few weeks has swept across the island, creating a new biome to the south called the Wasteland. (I’m glad Mount Olympus, my favorite landing spot last season, has survived for now.) There are three new locations to explore: the Redline Rig refinery, the Nitrodrome car arena, and the Brutal Beachhead, which features a boss named Megalo Don.
Redline Rig produces Nitro Splash and Nitro Barrels that can be found all over the island, and you can use them to power up both your vehicle and yourself. When you’re nitro-fied, you can demolish structures without needing to use a pickaxe. If you’re lucky, you may also find a powerful melee weapon called Nitro Fists.
Vehicles can be equipped with modifications such as machine gun turrets and spike bumpers. There is also the option to capture one of the two Battle Buses that patrol the island. These buses have cannons and EMP pulses that can damage enemy shields and disable nearby vehicles.
As for Fallout collaborations, that series’ iconic Nuka-Cola is now in Fortnite. You can drink some to replenish health and restore shields over time. A T-60 Power Armor skin can also be unlocked via the battle pass. Epic Games’ ability to constantly adapt Fortnite to cultural fluctuations keeps the game current both in terms of players and cultural trends. The Wrecked season offers players exciting new content with Mad Max inspiration and Fallout collaboration. The new features and mechanics this season introduces offer players a multitude of new opportunities to explore and experience.
