Forza Horizon 4 will be among the popular games removed from digital stores. Playground Games announced that sales of the 2018 open world racing game have ended due to licensing and partner agreements, and that the game will be removed from Microsoft stores and Steam on December 15, 2024.
While the days are numbered before people can still purchase the game, the final in-game event will run from July 25 to August 22, after which some achievements linked to seasonal Festival Playlists will no longer be unlockable.
Forza Horizon 4’s downloadable content pack is already being removed from stores. This further increases the complexity of the process. If you played the game through Xbox Game Pass and purchased some DLC, you are eligible to receive a code to download the entire game and continue playing after the delisting date. This game code will be sent out to eligible players with a fully paid Xbox Game Pass subscription in the coming days and must be redeemed by June 25, 2026.
Forza Horizon 4 servers will remain open
Somewhat surprisingly, Playground says in its FAQ that servers persist after delisting, so both offline and online modes will remain playable. Between this and Game Pass subscribers receiving a code to continue playing, it looks like Playground is trying to make the best of an unfortunate situation.
Forza Horizon 4 will be just over six years old when it’s pulled from digital stores, leaving only physical Xbox copies in circulation for those left behind to explore. Forza Horizon 5 is a worthy sequel and Forza Motorsport will continue to raise the flag, but it should also be noted that it is a pity that digital games are so short-lived.
