Ahead of Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event, detailed specifications of the new Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 models have been leaked. Famous tech leaker Evan Blass shared marketing images of both phones in his Substack newsletter and revealed some significant improvements.
Galaxy Z Flip 6
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 has the same screen dimensions as its predecessor: a 3.4-inch cover display and a 6.7-inch main foldable display. While the main screen offers Full HD + resolution and a 120Hz variable refresh rate, the cover screen runs at 720 x 748 pixels and a 60Hz refresh rate.
Flip 6’s biggest innovations lie in its internal hardware. Switching from a 3,700mAh battery to a 4,000mAh battery will provide a significant improvement in battery life. Additionally, the Flip 6 will be equipped with a vapor chamber cooling system, a first in this series, which will enable better heat management during demanding tasks.
As for the camera system, the main sensor has been increased to 50MP, while the 12MP ultra-wide sensor and 10MP selfie camera remain unchanged.
Galaxy Z Fold 6
Fold 6 comes with a 6.3-inch cover screen and a 7.6-inch main foldable screen. Both displays offer a 120Hz refresh rate and 2,600 nits of brightness, on par with the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Slightly lighter than the Fold 5, the Fold 6 has dropped from 253g to 239g and has the same 4,400mAh battery as the previous model.
The camera system also remains unchanged: 50MP main sensor, 12MP ultra-wide sensor and 10MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom. 10MP front cameras on the cover screen and 4MP front cameras on the main screen are also preserved.
Common features
Both models feature significant improvements in terms of durability. Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 will have an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance. While this falls a bit short of the IP68 rating of many high-end smartphones, it’s a significant improvement for foldable phones. The frames of the phones are made of Armor Aluminum and their screens are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Both foldable models will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, with 12GB RAM and 256GB and 512GB storage options. It is said that Fold 6 may also have a 1TB storage option.
The phones, which will work with Android 14 and Samsung’s One UI 6.1.1 interface, will include Galaxy AI features such as Circle to Search, Interpreter Mode and Notes Summarization. However, there is no mention of previously rumored new AI features for foldable devices.
Other shared features include a side-mounted fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, dual SIM support, and 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C connectivity options. Samsung DeX support will be exclusive to Galaxy Z Fold 6 only.
