On the other hand, the $1.5 billion incentive will be used to expand GlobalFoundries’ production facilities in New York. The facilities include advanced technology used in the company’s factories in Singapore and Germany. technologies will be put into use. These investments are specifically aimed at chip production for the US automotive industry. New York state also announced that it will provide 550 million dollars of additional support for this project.
As it is known, GlobalFoundries, which was established in 2009 with the separation of AMD’s production unit, successfully developed the 14nm production process and produced chips for AMD, but in 2018, the company decided to stop the transition to the 7nm production process and focused on more mature processes. Naturally, their relations with AMD were also severed. The company currently produces in 12nm and above processes.
